ipl schedule – When Shane Warne was fined $50,000 for publicly charging RCA secretary during his last IPL season
Australian spinner Shane Warne was a legend of the game, and not only in Australia, but he also had his fans all around the world. There was a lot of craze amongst Indian fans about Shane Warne, he had a memorable rivalry with Sachin Tendulkar, and his IPL contributions also made him a popular figure.
Warne was bought by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2008, and they gave all kinds of power to him to run the team. The Royals were considered the weakest team of the tournament on paper, but they fought against all kinds of odds to win the championship in the inaugural season.
Earlier last year, Warne passed away due to a suspected heart attack in Thailand. The death of Shane Warne put the whole cricketing fraternity into shock. He was given a tribute in the recent Boxing Day test between Australia and South Africa at the MCG in Melbourne.
Shane Warne was playing his last IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals in 2011, and famous for his controversial nature, he got engaged in yet another one. Warne had a spat with Rajasthan Cricket Board (RCA) secretary, where he publically called him a ‘liar’. The exact details of the spat are not known, but the thing was not taken lightly by the board.
Sanjay Dixit was IPL’s secretary at that time, and he was furious over the incident. The board wanted a fine for the leg-spinner, but he was just fined for the same. IPL’s Disciplinary Procedure Commission issued a heavy fine of $50,000 to Warne. This allowed Warne to play his last matches for the franchise.
It was said that Warne apologized to Sanjay Dixit, and considering the image of Warne, he was not banned. However, he was strongly warned that one more mistake will be costly for him. If Warne would have been fined for one game, Warne would not have played his farewell game with the Royals against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
